Abstract
|
|
|
Cystadenoma of the pancreas is a relatively rare, slow-growing true neoplasm which is mainly occurred in the body or tail portion. This occurs chiefly in middle aged women with upper abdominal palpable mass on initial examination.
Clinicopathologically,
it is classified into serous and mucinous type by Compagno et al.: mucinous cystadenoma, composed of tall columnar and mucin-producing epthelial cells, is usually larger and multiloculated than serous cystadenoma which is lined by glycogen-rich
cuboidal
cells. Total extirpation of the cystadenoma is the treatment of choice: internal drainage or marsupialization should not be done because of their recurrence or malignant potential especially in mucinous one. The present cases are two mucinous
cystadenoma, in 31 and 36-year-old housewives, originated from the pancreas tail and one serous cystadenoma in 72-year-old female from the pancreas body. The cystadenomas were treated with total cyst excision in one case of mucinous type and
distal
pancreatectomy including splenectomy in two cases without any postoperative complication.
